Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn at Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lithuanian Jewish immigrants Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. Ruth was a small child when her father, who was a carnival barker died. Her mother was forced to take on jobs like waitressing, cleaning and washing. Ruth lived in a slum Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She was a student in the area. In the midst of only two years in school she left for an acting career. The path she chose did not come without challenges. When she was in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills for crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed to do was abyssal. In New York, she volunteered in a bar as an entry-point girl, before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. It was the New England Repertory Company was the first job she had as a regular actor. Earned money performing during the daytime working as an Usherette. She also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
